Abundantly present in many coal deposits, coalbed methane gas is one of the “purest” forms of natural gas on the planet. What’s more, it is one of America’s most significant and important energy resources.

Known U.S. reserves alone are sufficient to meet projected domestic natural gas needs for 30 years and beyond. And that reserve can be tapped almost overnight, because unlike any other fossil fuel, coalbed methane gas is ready to use, out of the ground. It can literally be piped directly from the wellhead to the supply pipeline. But it’s not without its challenges. Coalbed methane can be difficult to extract profitably. Though abundant in many coalbeds, the gas itself can be tightly bound in the geological formations.

Conventional natural gas tends to be produced from sandstone and limestone formations which have no natural affinity for the gas; due to adsorbtion (a phenomenon where natural gas is weakly bonded to coal), coalbed methane requires specialized techniques for productive volume. As a result, many companies have become frustrated by promising wellsites that have yet to deliver on the proven reserve potential.

In its short operating history in the oil and gas industry, Fellows Energy Ltd. has positioned itself to control and exploit potential reserves from a number of large oil and gas resource type projects covering 539,928 gross and 246,008 net acres. These projects focus on coal bed natural gas (“CBNG”), tight sands gas, and oil from fractured shales. These projects are characterized by their widespread occurrence, large reserve potential, low finding and development costs, high drilling success rates, and low geologic and operating risks.
